Family Day, The Chateau Way

The morning starts slowly, without alarms, much like Christmas morning. The kids are already awake and eager to explore, while fresh mountain air and softly falling snow turn the view outside your window into your very own snow globe. There is no schedule to follow and no rush to be anywhere. Just one simple question: what do we feel like doing today?

Eventually, you make your way to the concierge desk, where possibilities unfold for every member of the family. From the youngest adventurers to the young at heart, there is always something to get up to at Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise. Family Day here is less about planning and more about letting the day unfold naturally.

Skating on the lake is the first activity that catches everyone’s attention. With skates available to rent for the whole family at Chateau Ski and Snow Rentals, the day is already off to a perfect start. Soon, you are gliding across the frozen lake hand in hand with your partner while the kids jump into a lively game of sticks and pucks. Snow-covered mountains rise in the distance as tiny snowflakes settle on rosy cheeks and mittens.

Cold hands eventually signal that it is time for hot chocolate. You head to Ice Bar, where warm cups are picked up to enjoy by the outdoor fire pits at Victoria Terrace. Wrapped in scarves and gloves, everyone gathers together, warming up while taking in the view of the lake and mountains beyond.

Back inside, the pace slows without you even noticing. You pick up a few board games from the front desk and settle into The Living Room, still bundled up, cheeks warm from the cold. There is laughter, a little friendly competition, and the comfort of lingering a little longer together. It is an easy, unhurried moment, one that makes the day feel full without needing anything more.

Before dinner, the kids are ready to head back outside once more. After all, you are on vacation, and there is no reason to say no. Somewhere between the lake and the hotel, an impromptu snowball fight breaks out. It is not listed in the Concierge Guide, but it becomes one of the highlights of the day. Laughter fills the air, and for a moment, nothing else matters except being together.

As the sun begins to set, it quietly signals that it is time to wind down. The day has been full, and everyone is happily tired. The evening invites a slower pace, with a family-style meal from our In-Room Dining menu, served in the comfort of your elegant and spacious Two Bedroom Lakeview Suite. Plates are shared, a movie is queued up, and the day comes to a gentle close without anyone needing to leave the warmth of the room.

This is what Family Day is meant to feel like.
