Perfect Mother’s Day French Toast

All Mamas Deserve the World, Especially on Mother’s Day!

A classic treat for mom on this special day is breakfast in bed. Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise Executive Chef, JF Fortin, has a perfect, easy Mother’s Day breakfast recipe to surprise your mama on Sunday morning.

Difficulty: Easy
Time: 15 minutes

French toast with berries.

Ingredients:

  • 1 whole egg
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 cup maple syrup
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 2 tsp vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 2 slices of your favourite bread (we recommend sourdough!)
  • 2 thick slices of cooked bacon
  • 1/4 cup of sharp cheddar cheese
Ingredients to make french toast.

Directions

Step One:
Whisk the egg, milk, melted butter and maple syrup in a large bowl (make sure this bowl is big enough to dip your sliced bread into)

Cracked egg in a bowl

Step Two:
Put the cast iron skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add oil and butter.

Step Three:
Dip the two slices of bread into the egg mixture. The bread should soak most of the mixture up.

Step Four:
Please the bread in the pan side-by-side. Cook for 90-seconds, until golden brown, and flip.

Step Five:
Add the bacon onto one of the slices of French toast and top it with the sharp cheddar cheese.

Step Six:
Once both slices are cooked, place the second slice of toast on top of the toast with the bacon and cheese to create a sandwich.

Step Seven:
Transfer your French toast from the cast iron skillet to a plate. Garnish with berries and maple syrup.
