All mamas deserve the world, especially on Mother’s Day! A classic treat for mom on this special day is breakfast in bed. Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise Executive Chef, JF Fortin, has a perfect, easy Mother’s Day breakfast recipe to surprise your mama on Sunday morning.
Time: 15 minutes
- 1 whole egg
- 1/4 cup milk
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 2 tsp vegetable oil
- 1 tbsp butter
- 2 slices of your favourite bread (we recommend sourdough!)
- 2 thick slices of cooked bacon
- 1/4 cup of sharp cheddar cheese
Whisk the egg, milk, melted butter and maple syrup in a large bowl (make sure this bowl is big enough to dip your sliced bread into)
Put the cast iron skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add oil and butter.
Dip the two slices of bread into the egg mixture. The bread should soak most of the mixture up.
Please the bread in the pan side-by-side. Cook for 90-seconds, until golden brown, and flip.
Add the bacon onto one of the slices of French toast and top it with the sharp cheddar cheese.
Once both slices are cooked, place the second slice of toast on top of the toast with the bacon and cheese to create a sandwich.
Transfer your French toast from the cast iron skillet to a plate. Garnish with berries and maple syrup.
