About, Career, & Passions:
Sean Murphy is an award winning author, a 2018 National Endowment for the Arts Fellow in Creative Writing, as well as a recognized Zen meditation teacher and Dharma Holder in the American White Plum Lineage of Zen. He has been a practitioner of Zen meditation for 30 years, and also teaches secular meditation and mindfulness at the University of New Mexico-Taos and through his nonprofit Sage Institute.

The latest edition of his nonfiction chronicle of Zen in America, One Bird, One Stone, won the 2014 International Book Award. His debut novel, The Hope Valley Hubcap King, received the Hemingway Award for a First Novel. He leads writing and meditation workshops for a variety of organizations and conferences, and is a certified Yoga teacher, as well as the co-founder and Director of the nonprofit Sage Institute, which hosts an innovative Meditation Leader Training Program.

His other books include is The Time of New Weather, which was named Best Novel in the 2009 National Press Women’s Communication Awards, and the Pulitzer-nominated The Finished Man (all published by Bantam/Dell Books).
